IT WAS TIME is a continuation from the series SEXUALISING, this time turning the focus onto my father who often receives comments on his physical appearance. This project was created from the frustration of hearing these comments on my father, so I felt there was a need to remove the sexual element from him. By dressing him in the lingerie that he had previously bought for my mother, I got him to perform grotesque acts and pose along side dead birds and pig’s hearts that created a repulsive version of my father. IT WAS TIME allowed me to accept my dad as a sexual entity and in turn helped me understand that this does not affect my relationship with him. This series received criticism regarding its problematic nature and led me to question why this was less acceptable than when I photographed my mother. I am now showing this work for the first time in a non academic setting and allowing the public to have an opinion on this topic.
